Rose Getz has taught hatha yoga for 32 years to thousands of Indianapolis students, and has led hundreds onto the path of meditation in the tradition of Swami Rama of the Himalayas. She began her study of yoga in Milwaukee in 1970 and received initiation in the Himalayan meditative tradition from Swami Rama in May of 1972. In 1974, under his guidance, she opened The Himalayan Institute of Indianapolis, a branch of the Himalayan International Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy. In 1997, the Center officially became the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Center of Indiana. Rose's disciplined, spiritual approach imparts the deeper meaning of hatha yoga to her students. Those studying with Rose learn that relaxation, concentration, and mindfullness are integral components of the practice, carrying physical and spiritual benefits. As a meditation teacher, she has the ability to impart the essence and grace of the meditative lineage, preparing each interested student for initiation in the tradition. Over the years, Rose has quartered the yoga center at 52nd and Keystone from 1979 to 1989, and subsequently at other locations in the heart of Broad Ripple. In addition to teaching, she has established bookselling operations at the yoga centers, and has brought numerous spiritual teachers in the Himalayan Tradition to lecture in Indianapolis. Rose continues to be available
for private meditation counseling for students in the Swami Rama
tradition.
